Abstract: In this study, we introduce a simple hybrid dynamical system showing complex behavior. Only hav- ing two harmonic oscillators with a stable node, this system exhibits rich kinds of nonlinear phenomena: bifurcations, chaos, multistable state, and devil's staircase. We observe them in phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, and the ro- tation number, via the numerical experiments. Through the bifurcation analysis, we clarify the relation between the grazing bifurcation and the devil's staircase, and summa- rize the scenario to the chaos.
